Hi, my name is Chuck Slocum. I grew up in NYC. After high school, I joined the U.S. Navy.
While in the sevice, I served on the ship The U.S.S. Iwo Jima during the Viet Nam War. I was asked to paint the insignia of the Apollo 13 spacecraft on the side of the ship, prior to its splashdown.
As a reward for doing so, I was given the honor of opening the door and greeting the astronauts as they emerged from the helicopter onto the ship's deck.
After the service, I moved to Pasadena, California and studied art at Pasadena City College for three years. Over the past years, I have been commissioned to paint murals, do sidewalk art on a grand scale and artwork for various festivals. My artwork has been exhibited throughout California.
I came up with the idea to create a website specifically for Lake County Artists to display and sell their artwork to the public. I wanted the site to be free of any charges to the artist. Being a member of the "Artists of the Lake" group, I approached the Konocti Adult School with this idea. The school agreed to sponsor the site and here we are.
I chose the name "Sandfeathers". Sand to me represents the building block of mankind and feather became man's first tool to record his ideas and create his artwork and make his ideas endure.
